Focus ST MK4 / MK4.5 Stage 2+ Software [395BHP / 410FTLBS]

Behind the scenes, our goal wasn’t just to release a new, slightly more powerful map. Instead, we aimed to create a lasting mapping legacy for the Focus ST MK4.! For the last 3 years we have been working on our latest map for the MK4 ST, and we are delighted to finally announce its long awaited release.

Introducing the all new DS-Ultima-RS+ (STAGE 2+) – offering up a best dyno run of 395Bhp and 433FtLb. This is a respectable increase of +30Bhp and +38FtLb over the previous Stage 2 DS-Ultima-RS map.

This map has been created to run on either 97 or 99 Octane fuel. The optimum performance is only obtained from the 99 Octane fuel but this map has been created with some flexibility for those who can only get BP Ultimate 97. This flexibility is factored into the timing adjustment capability, so those running 97octane fuel may not achieve the same performance as those running 99octane fuel.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

During development, customers frequently asked us, ‘What hardware will I need to run this new map?’ It is becoming well-known that the Focus ST MK4 struggles to maintain high horsepower output for prolonged periods. This is due to heat soak, as the factory intercooler space is small. Therefore, in developing this latest map, we ensured our test car trialled all additional cooling hardware on the market. This included:

• Secondary intercooler (along with an aftermarket intercooler)
• Big boost pipe kit
• Velossa Tech big mouth scoops
• External oil cooler kit. (cannot be used simultaneously with a secondary intercooler as they use the same fixing points)

We then decided to remove these mods to test this new map with just the basic stage 2 bolt-on mods only:

• Cold Air Intake
• DS Intercooler
• DS Race Cat
• DS GPF Delete

The good news for customers (and their wallets) is the car still achieved a similar peak power and torque figures on first dyno pull with these basic stage 2 mods, but as we expected, the performance dropped off rather quickly during the 2nd and 3rd runs, as temperatures increased.

Our conclusion on the above, since on-road cooling is more efficient than dyno fans (based on numerous data-logs), using a secondary intercooler, bigger boost pipes, and an oil cooler is not mandatory. However, these components do become essential for those who wish to maintain higher horse power figures for prolonged periods, or for any track use, as more power generates more heat!

if you have a track day planned and do not have these additional cooling upgrades, we recommend using the previous Stage 2 map instead [365BHP / 395FLTBLBS].

MORE TESTING

Thanks to our worldwide dealer network and the latest tuning technology, we have tested this tune in various countries, altitudes, ambient temperatures, and with different fuels. The results have been flawless!

Our final and most rigorous tests in the UK took place on Monday and Tuesday, the 24th and 25th of June 2024. We took advantage of the ambient temperatures over 28°C in our dyno room to ensure consistent performance in above-average temperatures.

Running the Ultima-RS+ (Stage 2+) software without the correct hardware may result in failure to achieve the quoted power / torque figures, abnormal running, detrimental fuel consumption or engine warning light illumination.  In extreme circumstances, damage to and / or failure of the engine.

With consideration to the above, a Service Pack 2 with Iridium Spark Plugs was installed on the morning of June 24th, just before the final dyno testing runs with the DS-Ultima-RS+ tune. The tune performed flawlessly, achieving a best run when of 395 bhp and 433 ft-lb.
